Breakfast success at The Academy, Selsey

We are delighted that our Breakfast Club at The Academy Selsey has proved a success in its first year, delivering over 725 breakfasts to pupils. The initiative is a joint venture, aiming to provide students with a healthy breakfast and help support their ability to learn and retain knowledge.

School appleThe breakfast club, which is paid for by Recenseo, launched in January 2015 to ensure that all children had access to a healthy breakfast, which is proven to aide learning. The club runs every morning from 8am until 8.30am offering cereal, fruit juice and fruit to all students – with disadvantaged students enjoying breakfast free of charge.

We’ve been working with Matt Tymon, Head of Pastoral Care at The Academy Selsey on the project. The background research told us that slow-burning, energy releasing cereals help students focus on lessons and we’ve all been delighted that since the launch of the club there has been an improvement in the attention and behaviour of those pupils who are enjoying our healthy breakfasts.

The club has had a fantastic start, and we are really pleased that it’s making a real change to The Academy and its pupils. We have been speaking about the success of the club to other local schools who want to implement the same approach, and hope to be able to roll out the same concept elsewhere.

We take our role in the community seriously. Find out more about the Recenseo team here
