Ask any marketer what platforms they should be focusing on, or where the future is heading in the marketing landscape, and within the first few words of their response, the term social media will be proudly mentioned.
And here at Recenseo we would struggle to disagree. As a team of marketing professionals, we know which social media channels to use, how and when to use them and provide specialist consultancy for well thought-out strategies.
One thing is for sure, we certainly know that social media is not only here to stay, it’s only going to get bigger…
Social media strategy
However, that isn’t to say that every platform is relevant for every business in every industry. Let’s take the growing phenomenon of Instagram, for example. Since Facebook acquired the photo-sharing app, Instagram now proudly boasts more than 500 million users on the platform (accurate of June 2016). Yet, despite these impressive figures, here at Recenseo we have so far been cautious to engage with the app.
Instagram’s core focus is centred on visual content, and as we operate in the B2B industry without a stellar array of photographic content to engage with other users, the concept has fallen on deaf ears. However, if we worked within the B2C sector are thoughts may be very different.
So, for now, Instagram has been ‘left by the roadside’. But this should be a lesson for anyone considering to set up a social media channel before undergoing a review of the platform. Since consistent, engaging and exciting content is the core focus for any social media platform, understanding your strategy – what you want to achieve and whom you want to reach – is not only important, it’s vital. So, if you’re in the process of setting up a new channel in the frenzied social sphere, make sure you’ve thoroughly thought it through. There are very few things worse from a social media (and SEO) perspective than an inactive account – not to mention the impact it can have on your brand image and identity. The key message here is to plan, strategise and review thoroughly, before any action is required.
As they say, ‘failing to plan is planning to fail’.
